How to Use FreePresenter
A complete guide to creating and presenting Markdown slides — from writing your first slide to exporting a polished PDF.
Open the Editor
Click "Open Editor" on the FreePresenter landing page or navigate directly to /free-presenter/editor. The editor opens with 3 sample slides to help you get started.
Tip: Your work is auto-saved to your browser's localStorage every time you make a change.
Add Slides
Click the "+ Slide" button in the toolbar to add a new slide. A blank slide is appended at the end and selected automatically. You can also delete the current slide using the Trash icon (requires at least 2 slides).
Tip: Click any slide thumbnail in the left panel to jump to it.
Write Markdown
Type in the center editor panel using standard Markdown syntax. Use # for a large heading, ## for subheadings, **bold**, *italic*, - for bullet lists, 1. for numbered lists, and `code` for inline code.
# My Title ## Subheading - Point one - **Bold** point - `inline code` 1. Step one 2. Step two
Tip: The preview on the right updates live as you type.
Pick a Template
Choose from 4 templates using the Template dropdown in the toolbar. Minimal is a clean white design. Dark suits code-heavy talks. Gradient uses a vibrant teal-cyan background. Professional adds a navy accent bar for formal presentations.
Tip: You can change the template at any time — it applies to all slides.
Add Speaker Notes
The Notes panel appears below the editor. Type your speaker prompts, key points to remember, or timing cues. Notes are saved alongside your slide content but are never shown in the presentation or PDF.
Tip: Click the "Speaker Notes" bar to collapse the panel if you need more editor space.
Present Fullscreen
Click the "▶ Present" button to enter fullscreen mode. Your current slide fills the screen. Use the keyboard to navigate.
Keyboard Navigation (Fullscreen)
During fullscreen mode, use keyboard shortcuts to navigate your presentation smoothly.
Export to PDF
Click "Export PDF" in the toolbar. A new browser tab opens with all your slides rendered in the selected template. Your browser's print dialog appears automatically — choose "Save as PDF" as the destination.
Tip: For best results, set paper size to A4 Landscape or Letter Landscape in the print dialog.
