FAQ
Is FreeCitationGen really free?
Yes, 100% free. No sign-up, no limits, no premium tiers. Generate unlimited citations in any format.
What citation formats are supported?
APA 7th, MLA 9th, Chicago 17th (notes-bibliography and author-date), Harvard, IEEE, and Vancouver.
Can I auto-fill citation details?
Yes. Paste a URL, DOI, or ISBN to automatically fetch title, authors, date, and other metadata. DOI uses CrossRef API, ISBN uses Open Library API.
Is my data private?
All citation formatting runs in your browser. URL auto-fill uses a lightweight proxy to fetch page metadata, but no data is stored. DOI and ISBN lookups go directly to public APIs.
Can I export my bibliography?
Yes. Export as plain text, formatted HTML, BibTeX, or RIS. You can also import from BibTeX.
What source types can I cite?
Website, book, journal article, newspaper article, conference paper, thesis/dissertation, report, and patent.
