Security Tips
Use at least 4 random words for adequate security (5+ for high-security accounts).
Never pick words yourself — human word choices are predictable. Use a generator.
Add a separator character between words (-, ., _) for better compatibility.
A 4-word random passphrase has roughly the same entropy as a 10-character random password.
FAQ
What is a passphrase?
A passphrase is a password made of randomly chosen words, like 'correct-horse-battery-staple'. They are longer than traditional passwords but much easier to remember, while being equally or more secure.
How secure is a passphrase vs a random password?
A 4-word passphrase from a 7,776-word list has about 51 bits of entropy. A 5-word passphrase has about 64 bits. For equivalent security to a 16-character random password, use 5-6 words.
Can I use the Passphrase mode directly?
Yes. Switch to 'Passphrase' mode in the generator above to create word-based passwords. You can customize the number of words, separator character, and capitalization.
