Resume Color Guide — How to Use Color Without Losing Credibility

Sunil Kalikayi4/8/20264 min read

The Rule of One Accent Color

Use at most one accent color. That color should appear on: section headers, your name, divider lines. Never use multiple accent colors — it looks like a brochure, not a resume.

Colors by Industry

Tech/Engineering: Deep blue (#1e40af), Dark teal (#0f766e), or Slate gray (#475569). Finance/Legal: Navy (#1e3a5f) or Dark green (#064e3b). Healthcare: Teal (#0d9488) or Professional blue (#1d4ed8). Creative: More latitude — electric blue (#2563EB), violet (#7c3aed), or deep orange (#c2410c). Conservative industries: avoid red, orange, and bright yellow entirely.
