OG Image Best Practices: Dimensions, Design, and Common Mistakes
Universal Dimension Standard
1200×630px (1.91:1 ratio) is the universal safe zone accepted by all major platforms. At minimum, never go below 600×315px. Images that don't meet minimums are either ignored or shown as tiny thumbnails. Always design at 2x resolution (2400×1260px) then export at display size.
Design Principles for High-CTR OG Images
High contrast text that's readable at small sizes. Brand colors prominently displayed. A clear, single message — not a collage of information. Avoid text in the outer 10% margin (cropped on some platforms). Test by viewing at 300px wide — the typical mobile preview size.
Technical Requirements
Format: JPG preferred (smaller file), PNG for transparency. Max file size: 8MB (Facebook), 5MB (LinkedIn). HTTP URL required (not relative path). Images served over HTTPS are required for some platform validators. CDN-hosted images load faster and improve scraping reliability.
