JSON-LD Structured Data: Complete Guide for Developers

Sunil Kalikayi3/7/20258 min read

What Is JSON-LD?

JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data) is Google's recommended format for adding structured data to web pages. It helps search engines understand your content and can trigger rich results — enhanced search listings with stars, prices, FAQs, and more. Unlike microdata, JSON-LD lives in a script tag and doesn't clutter your HTML.

Article Schema

The Article schema is essential for blogs and news sites. It tells Google who wrote the article, when it was published, and what it's about. Properly implemented Article schema can earn you rich results with publication dates, author info, and article thumbnails in search results. Include headline, author, datePublished, and image properties at minimum.

FAQ Schema

Adding FAQ schema to pages with frequently asked questions can display your Q&A directly in search results — taking up valuable real estate on the SERP. Each question-answer pair appears as an expandable accordion below your listing. This significantly increases click-through rates.

Product and Organization Schema

E-commerce sites should use Product schema to display prices, availability, and review ratings directly in search results. Organization schema helps build your knowledge panel — the info box that appears when someone searches for your company. FreeSEOKit generates valid JSON-LD for all these schema types.
