How to Diagnose Audio Output Problems Before Meetings — A Speaker Troubleshooting Guide

Sunil Kalikayi4/7/20265 min read

The Most Common Pre-Meeting Audio Problems

One-sided audio in headphones. Very low output volume. No audio on the default device. Distorted output at higher volumes. Each of these has a specific test and fix.

Diagnosing With Speaker Test

Run the left and right channel tests in Speaker Test to check stereo balance. If one side is silent, check cable connections or system audio balance settings. Run the bass and treble tests to confirm frequency response.

System-Level Fixes

On Mac: System Preferences > Sound > Output. Check the Balance slider is centered. On Windows: Settings > Sound > choose correct output device. Verify the volume is not muted in the system tray.
