Why can't I use real fonts on Instagram or Twitter?

Social platforms render all text in their own typeface — you can't specify fonts via CSS as you would on a website. Unicode styled characters bypass this limitation by being different characters that happen to look like styled versions of regular letters.

How Unicode Styled Text Works

The Unicode standard includes multiple mathematical script and bold/italic character sets. 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱 text is Unicode mathematical bold letters (U+1D400 range). 𝘐𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘤 uses mathematical italic letters. These display as styled text on any platform that renders Unicode — including all social platforms, messaging apps, and most email clients.

Accessibility Limitations

Unicode styled text is invisible to screen readers — assistive technology reads the underlying Unicode code points, not the visual appearance. Use sparingly in contexts where accessibility matters. Pure decoration in headers of long posts is acceptable; using fancy text for actual content is not.
