How do I get an EAN-8 number?
EAN-8 numbers are assigned directly by your local GS1 office (not derived from your company prefix). You must apply specifically for EAN-8 numbers and justify the need based on product size.
Can I convert an EAN-13 to EAN-8?
No. EAN-8 and EAN-13 use different numbering systems. An EAN-8 number must be separately assigned by GS1. You cannot simply truncate an EAN-13 number.
Do all barcode scanners support EAN-8?
Yes. All standard retail point-of-sale barcode scanners support EAN-8. It is part of the same GS1 standard family as EAN-13 and UPC.
What is the minimum print size for EAN-8?
The standard size for EAN-8 is 26.73 mm x 21.64 mm. It can be reduced to 80% of this size (about 21.4 mm x 17.3 mm) while still being scannable.
How many digits do I need to enter?
